i’ve always been fascinated with other cultures and the way in which they raise their children. maybe it’s because both of my parents are from new zealand and my extended family is spread throughout new zealand, australia, and europe, therefore opening my eyes to the world around me. from a very young age. i dream of one day traveling the world, learning from mothers from all different cultures, and teaching my son about the world by experiencing it. i wish to take the best of each culture and incorporate it into the way i raise holden. the preschools in sweden are held entirely outdoors and children nap outside despite the weather, children in denmark are carted everywhere via bike and are left napping outside shops and restaurants, french children are instilled with patience and french parents use the word educate instead of discipline. maybe one day we will be able to live out our own goodwin project, opening our minds to what is outside the world in which we live. we are actually currently contemplating (and looking into) moving across the world for a year or two. fingers crossed that we can make it happen.
